what is psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that is a result of two things:

  • An overproduction of skin cells
  • Extra skin cells become red, inflamed, scaly patches

These patches of psoriasis can be found anywhere on the body – especially on your knees, elbows, and even the scalp. The most common form of psoriasis is plaque psoriasis.

Important Safety Information about Taclonex® Ointment

Taclonex® Ointment is used on the skin to treat psoriasis vulgaris in adults.  Do not use more than 100 grams per week.

FOR TOPICAL USE ONLY. Do not use on your face, under your arms or on your groin.

You should not use Taclonex® Ointment if you have a history of allergy to any of its ingredients; higher than normal levels of calcium in your blood; or erythrodermic, exfoliative or pustular psoriasis.

Serious side effects may include too much calcium in your blood, or adrenal gland problems if you use too much or use it for too long.  The most common side effects are itching, rash and skin burning at the site of application.

If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using Taclonex® Ointment, talk to your doctor before using this medication.  You should not bandage, tightly cover or wrap the treated skin area.  Other products containing calcipotriene or a corticosteroid should not be used with Taclonex® Ointment without first talking to your doctor.
